Cambodia is a country with a rich history, culture, and natural beauty, but also a painful past. The country has made significant progress in recent years toward economic and social development but still faces many challenges in terms of poverty, corruption, and political stability.
Phnom Penh is Cambodia’s capital city, located at the confluence of the Mekong, Tonle Sap, and Bassac rivers. It is a bustling city with a rich history, including French colonial architecture and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.
The Cambodian Genocide was the mass killing of Cambodian people by the Khmer Rouge regime. It is estimated that 1.7 to 2.2 million people died during this period, which had a devastating impact on the country’s population and culture. The Khmer Rouge was a radical communist group that ruled Cambodia from 1975-1979.
If you would like to know more about Cambodian history, I strongly recommend you to read “First, they killed my father” by Loung Ung. Or you can watch the movie directed by Angelina Jolie.
